Arlington, Texas (Sept. 15, 2016) -- Individuals who once owned and sold Volkswagen and Audi vehicles cited for cheating emissions testing have an important deadline coming up tomorrow in order to claim their part of a $15 billion class-action settlement.
Recently, VW reached a settlement agreement with the U.S. government and certain owners involving 2.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi diesel vehicles that includes an offer to buy those vehicles back from their current owners.
Under that program, previous owners may also be entitled to compensation. But in order to participate in the buyback program and receive any potential benefits, those "eligible sellers" must register by Friday, Sept. 16.
According to the settlement agreements, an "eligible seller" is someone who purchased or acquired an eligible vehicle on or before Sept. 18, 2015 and sold or transferred ownership of that vehicle before June 28, 2016.
Eligible sellers can include independent dealers who held title to one of the eligible 2.0-liter vehicles or held a bill of sale for an eligible vehicle.
Eligible sellers can register online at www.VWCourtSettlement.com. Or they can submit anidentification form by mail to VW Court Settlement, P.O. Box 214500, Auburn Hills, MI 48326 or by fax to 1-248-754-6602.
Current owners, lessees and certain former lessees of eligible vehicles â including independent dealers â can submit claims through Sept. 1, 2018.
Independent dealers are encouraged to review their past inventory to determine if they meet the definition of "eligible seller," and to submit the identification form today to receive any settlement benefit.
